A New Heaven
Eckhart Tolle in his fascinating new book A NEW EARTH - Awakening to Your Life's Purpose writes, "The new spirituality, the transformation of consciousness, is arising to a large extent outside the structures of the existing institutionalized religions... 'A new heaven' is the emergence of a transformed state of human consciousness, and 'a new earth' is its reflection in the physical realm."
The word paradigm refers to the way we see and interpret the world - our conceptual framework or belief systems. Each of us has developed a paradigm that determines what we see, how we think and what we do. We assume that the way we see things is the way they really are. Our paradigms are usually all we know and we only become aware of them when we encounter ones that are different from our own. Are external things the way they are or are you creating reality based on your perceptual filters?
How do you see the world today? Do you see the world as a difficult place where you have to fight to survive or do you see it as a classroom where you have many opportunities to learn and transform your life? What assumptions do you have about the world and are your assumptions really valid?
We are here on earth to evolve, to transform and we are coming to explore what we have never seen before - our inner world. The new spirituality, the transformation of consciousness we are experiencing, will allow us to evolve into what author John White calls 'homo noeticus' or a person of consciousness. The person of consciousness knows that what is behind one's eyes is much more important than what is in front of them. They know that their inner world of thoughts and emotions is cause for their outer experience. We used think we created security by controlling or attacking our outer world and now we know we create security by looking inward to find the causes of our insecurity. As we heal the inner causes of insecurity we grow towards authentic power as individuals and as a society.
Many people will not be ready for the creation of authentic power because the creation of authentic power makes one confront the unhealthiest parts of oneself - the parts that criticize, blame, judge, resent, blame and hate. These are the aspects of us that must be discovered and changed.
Teacher Alan Watts wrote, "The question of how to experience
enlightenment - or authentic self - is not primarily a matter of, "what should I do in the future to get it, but rather, what am I presently doing that prevents me from realizing it right now?"
What is authentic power? Gary Zukav defines it this way: "Authentic power is being fully engaged in the present moment. It is being creative without limitation. It is enjoying the company of all life. It is caring and being cared for. It is being aware of everything you are feeling, all the time. It is living in joy. It is being so powerful that the idea of showing power through the use of force is not even a part of your consciousness. This is the life we are called to. We are called to a fuller, richer, more comprehensive perception and understanding of ourselves and the universe. We are beginning to glimpse a new way of living on the earth that is more fulfilling and powerful than was possible for the old human species. We are awakening to ourselves as the creators of our experiences, and our responsibility for what we create."
What an exciting time to be a participant in this new creation!
